Discover NLP

Have you ever tried to have a conversation with someone who doesn’t speak the same language as you?

Communication would hardly be possible, right?

This same concept applies to communication between your conscious & subconscious minds. Our conscious mind deals in logic, analysis, and will power, while our subconscious mind deals in permanent memory, emotions, and beliefs. These are two completely different languages!

Miscommunication so often happens when people try to use conscious awareness (reason and will power) to make changes that are rooted in the subconscious (values, habits, and feelings.) Think of: addictions, quitting smoking, dieting, improving concentration and productivity… how many people have been able to manage these concerns purely with will power? It is challenging for a reason! In these situations, conscious awareness simply isn’t the right tool to use, because the issue is embedded within our subconscious mind. So, what’s the answer?

How do we move past our conscious mind and get to the subconscious?

Let’s stretch the analogy a little bit further and think of NLP as the translator that helps the different parts of our brain communicate. NLP works on the connections between mind (neuro) and language (linguistic); you learn techniques to create changes in your thinking and communication, in order to bring about results in your body and behavior (programming). It is like learning the language of your own brain.

So what exactly is the link between our thoughts, our words, and our lives?

Each one of us has our own “map” of the world; we each see and experience the world in our own unique way. This is why 5 of us may go to the same event and each come back home with a different description of it! The way we process the world depends on our own sensory experiences. Whether we realize it or not, our thoughts, feelings, words, and actions all shape our map of reality.

NLP helps you understand your personal map of reality; it helps you identify and change your self-limiting beliefs. We are human after all, and each one of our “maps” of the world has its limitations (these also stem from our life experiences.) Through Neuro-linguistic Programming, you create an open, dynamic line of communication between your conscious and subconscious minds, which helps you gain insights into your cognitive and behavioral patterns. Once you have these insights, you can determine which beliefs, habits, and patterns are beneficial when it comes to achieving your goals, and which are holding you back. You learn how to “model” success and promote whatever skills you desire, whether that is self-awareness, communication, confidence or courage; the sky is the limit.

In fact, one of the reasons NLP is so popular is because of its diversity and versatility; nothing is out of bounds!

Some history for you

NLP was born in the 1970s, it all started with Richard Bandler and John Grinder. Grinder was a linguist, and his research focused on how our speech patterns affect the way we process the world. Bandler had a more scientific, mathematical background, which lent itself to NLP’s philosophy that our minds can be mapped and analyzed. NLP took off and became a movement, and it is used in so many fields today, including: education, psychology, counseling, law, sociology, data analysis, marketing, e-commerce, crime investigations, and technology.

The bottom line

NLP can be used in all these different contexts for one simple reason: the subconscious mind is at the center of it all. Once you learn how to access your subconscious mind, you can reprogram your thinking and communication and create change in any & every aspect of your life. When it comes to Neurolinguistic Programming, the bottom line is that we are limitless in our ability to learn and grow. Wherever you want success, use NLP!
